Members and associates of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders provide editorial services to publishers and a wide range of companies, government agencies and other bodies. Many of us are also copywriters, indexers, project managers, translators and/or typesetters.

Jeff Probst

Advanced member, based in London.

Jeff copy-edits, proofreads and Americanizes on screen and on paper. Recent clients include: Pearson Education, A & C Black, Lifelong Learning UK, NASUWT, Hamlyn, the Home Office, the Metropolitan Police, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and McCann Erickson. Lucy Ridout

Advanced member, based in Crystal Palace, London SE19.

Lucy is an experienced editor of fiction, general non-fiction and travel titles. She works for major publishers such as Atlantic Books, Corvus and Trailblazer as well as for novice, nervous and self-publishing clients. She's also an Asia specialist and has written many guidebooks on Thailand and Indonesia for Rough Guides. More about Lucy

Christopher Shaw

Advanced member, based in Peckham Rye, London SE15.

Chris has been working for a variety of major publishers since early retirement from the Foreign Office in 2000. He's equally at home editing/proofreading on screen or on paper. He deals mainly with humanities, but also has experience in economics, finance, business and some science subjects, among others. Working in French is also a possibility. More about Chris

Christina Thomas

Advanced member, based in Fulham, London SW6.

Christina has been polishing, editing and freeing documents from unwanted errors for the last 20 years. Once a document has left her desk, it's clear and confident and your message reaches your intended audience in the way you'd like it to. Her skills include proofreading, editing and writing for both print and the web. Specialist subjects include business/business studies, food and drink, current affairs, legal professional practice, Arabic and Middle Eastern affairs. She's also an experienced trainer in editorial skills and has helped develop many house style documents for both business and publishing clients. More about Christina

Wendy Toole

Advanced member, based in Welwyn Garden City.

Wendy specialises in arts subjects including architecture, history and English literature. She worked for six years as an in-house editor and has been a full-time freelance since 2002. More about Wendy

Shelagh Aitken

Ordinary member, based in London NW8.

Shelagh has experience working with online content, such as business reports and marketing materials, and is familiar with InDesign. She's also interested in general nonfiction, especially arts and humanities, sailing, music, health and well-being. More about Shelagh

Ruth Burns

Ordinary member, based in Finchley, London N3.

Ruth has 20+ years' experience in editing and proofreading maths and science secondary textbooks and medical conference materials. For light relief, she enjoys proofreading cookbooks. More about Ruth

Nancy Campbell

Ordinary member, based in Highbury, London N5.

Nancy specialises in literature and the visual arts. More about Nancy

Clare L Dobson

Ordinary member, based in Essex.

Clare has particular interest in Spain, learning second languages and motor racing/motorsports. More about Clare

Jenny Jobbins

Ordinary member, based in Brentwood.

Jenny specialises in proofreading and copy-editing, both on the page and online, specialising in theses and study texts. She also has experience in editing food, farming and environmental copy.

Hugh Morgan

Ordinary member, based in north London.

Hugh has many years' in-house experience, latterly as managing editor, Which? Books. He freelances for a number of publishers on general-interest non-fiction, from biographies to wine guides, and adult fiction. More about Hugh

Imogen Olsen

Ordinary member, based in Beckenham, SE London.

Imogen is a very experienced fiction editor. Freelance since 1982, she has edited over 700 novels for a variety of London publishers and specialises in crime fiction. She particularly enjoys rescuing unwieldy plots.

Eric Smith

Ordinary member, based in Peckham, London SE15.

Eric copy-edits, proofreads and rewrites, preferring to work on paper and transfer changes to electronic documents. He works mainly on reference material, language courses and travel guides. He's experienced in gathering information from English and foreign-language websites. More about Eric

Simon K Webber

Ordinary member, based in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey.

Simon has been a freelance proofreader since 1998, with specialist interest in sports (especially cricket and football) and legal publishing. More about Simon

Edward Bodell

Based in Herts/North London borders.

Edward specialises in technical publications. Experience has been gained through working in the printing/publishing sectors as a proofreader, typesetter and technical author.

Marija Duric Speare

Based in Walthamstow, London E17.

Marija has 20 years' experience in book and magazine publishing in the arts and humanities, with a specialism in music. She is Mac and PC proficient, is familiar with Quark, InDesign and Word, and is happy to work in-house as well as from home.

Jenny Finch

Based in Forest Hill, London SE23.

Jenny specialises in healthcare, social care, and policy, research and evaluation in these areas, and has edited a wide range of documents in these fields. She's also a qualified and experienced translator, from French and Italian.

Martina Habeck

Based in Forest Hill, London SE23.

Martina has extensive experience in copy-editing academic texts in the life sciences and educational materials for teachers and healthcare professionals. Other skills include developmental editing and copywriting. Available to work in-house or from home. More about Martina

Gwen Hewett

Based in Tower Hill, London E1.

Gwen has copy-editing experience across a wide range of fields but is especially at home with fiction. Her other speciality is life sciences, particularly human health and medical research. She's comfortable working with non-native authors, and can do rewriting where necessary. She prefers to work electronically.

Dick Hill

Based in Willesden Green, London NW2.

Dick is an enthusiastic copy-editor, proofreader and project manager, as well as a published writer. He has worked in diverse areas (culture, statistics, academic and public sector) and is keen to try others. More about Dick

Andrew Lewis

Based in Stepney, London E1.

Andrew has completed 'Basic Proofreading by Distance Learning' (Publishing Training Centre), and will shortly undertake further training with SfEP. He has proofread a wide variety of business texts for previous employers, and has also worked on several articles intended for publication in academic journals.

Kerrie-Anne Love

Based in London.

Kerrie writes, edits and proofreads corporate newsletters, brochures, reports and websites. She also works as a sub-editor on magazines, focusing on travel and lifestyle. Her qualifications include a postgraduate degree in journalism and a business degree in communications.

Steve Roberts

Based in Beckenham, Kent.

Steve has proofread catalogues, reports and accounts, newsletters and other commercial items during his 30+ years' project management experience in 'design/artwork/print' companies. He would be more than happy to help with any general proofreading.
