Southampton SfEP

Need help with proofreading, editing or copywriting?

You may be looking for a proofreader to work on your academic text, a copy-editor who's great at making sense of scientific language, a specialist who can manage your complex publishing project or a copywriter who enjoys writing web pages.

If you're an individual, publisher or business based in Hampshire, Winchester, the New Forest or the Southampton region, you may like to contact a member of the Southampton group of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) first. Do also get in touch with us if you're based outside our region.

Don't let your writing let you down

It takes precious time and money to produce or design a book, leaflet, newsletter, web page or other material. So it's worth investing in a copywriter, editor or proofreader to help you make the best of your written content.

Remember that better writing is more likely to be clearly understood. It's more likely to persuade, sell or make the grade. Poor writing, mistakes and inconsistencies, on the other hand, can put people off, confuse them and encourage them to look elsewhere.

Quality on your doorstep

The SfEP is a professional society for copy-editors and proofreaders. Our aims include promoting high editorial standards. We've two tiers of membership (ordinary and advanced), and associates can join us, too.

Members of the SfEP provide editorial services to publishers and a wide range of companies, government agencies and other bodies. Many are also copywriters, indexers, project managers, translators and/or typesetters.

Check out the SfEP Southampton directory to find an SfEP member who can help you.

The SfEP offers training, mentoring and qualifications. It's also bursting with friendly, helpful people who support each other.

We'd love to meet you

Southampton SfEP meets in Eastleigh at the Cricketers Arms, which boasts 'great cask ales, a modern wine list and an excellent menu'.

You don't have to be from Southampton itself – if you've joined the SfEP (or are thinking of joining) and you can get to the pub, we'll welcome you!

We get together over lunch for a friendly chat about our work, our problems, frustrations and successes. It's a great opportunity to learn and share.
