SfEP AGM and 23rd annual conference
The many faces of editing
Vanbrugh College, University of York
Sat–Mon 8–10 September 2012
We hope that you'll be joining us at York in 2012 to connect with peers, leaders in the field and colleagues who share your professional goals and needs, to learn more, explore new ideas – and even squeeze in a tour of the historic city. We're sure you'll return to work refreshed and more creative.
Check out our very useful information for delegates and the latest on the conference programme.
Booking is now closed.
Following the great success of our 22nd conference at St Catherine's College, Oxford, for the 23rd we'll be travelling to the University of York, a venue that attracted a large number of delegates when we held our conference there in 2009.
Once again we'll be at the relatively new Vanbrugh College, which opened in 1968. One of the eight colleges that make up the university, it's home to the history and history of art departments. It's named after the famous architect Sir John Vanbrugh (1664–1726), who designed Castle Howard of Brideshead Revisited fame, just 10 miles north of York. (Delegates travelling by car and perhaps wanting to visit this stately home will be glad to know that the university has ample parking!)
Diverse programme
There will be the usual diverse, enlightening and entertaining programme of lectures, seminars and workshops. Speakers include legendary publisher Jessica Kingsley, Professor Deborah Cameron – expert on language and broadcaster – and Peter McKay, CEO of the Publishing Training Centre. We'll also be having a wide range of seminars, workshops and 'something for everyone' sessions. ...Find out more
Pre-conference training course: Project management
Saturday, 8 September
Want to extend your services to include longer-term multi-tasked work? This workshop covers projects in which procedures are defined by the client (e.g. taking a book from typescript to final press stage).
It uses group discussion, syndicate work and practical exercises to give an understanding of the tasks and processes involved and how they can be managed. Places are limited, so early booking is recommended.
Pre-conference tour of York city centre
Saturday, 8 September, 1.35pm
Join us for a walking tour of York's compact city centre: a chance to explore the city's historical and cultural highlights and network with fellow delegates.
A knowledgeable guide will lead us on a gentle stroll through Roman, Viking and medieval York, taking in sights such as the city walls, the Minster and the Shambles, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in the world. Cost: £4.50 (inclusive of taxi fare to and from the city centre and tour guide fee).
