Yahoo! Groups FAQs
What does Yahoo! Groups have to offer?
The SfEP uses the free facilities provided by Yahoo! Groups to run SfEPLine, SfEPLanguages, SfEPMedical and SfEPLegal.
Yahoo! Groups provides a number of other facilities, including archives for all our lists and useful files sent in by members and associates. If you want to take advantage of these, you need to become an individual Yahoo! member, which is also free. You can then sign in on the Yahoo! Groups sign-in page and access the websites of all the groups to which you belong.
I don't have a Yahoo! ID – how do I get one?
- Go to the Yahoo! Groups registration page
- Fill in the resulting on-screen form, specifying whatever ID and password you like (and that you know you can remember!). Under 'Alternate email' [sic], supply the email address under which you're subscribed to SfEPLine or the other lists. If you don't want to fill in any of the personal details that the form asks for, then don't. If it insists on you filling in a particular item, you can, if you want, make up something and use that.
- Yahoo! will probably then say it is sending you an email, to check that you are who you say you are. That email may take some hours to arrive; when it does, verify the email address as it requests.
- You now have a Yahoo! ID and can use it to access any of the groups of which you're a member.
I've signed in, but Yahoo! says I'm not a member of SfEPLine!
You've probably not responded to Yahoo!'s emailed request for you to verify your email address. You'll have to register again (see above) and then, when requested, make sure that you verify your email address.
I have a Yahoo! ID – how do I access the groups that I belong to?
Go to the Yahoo! Groups sign-in page, click on 'Sign in' and enter your ID and password. You will then get a list of 'Search results'. Click on the link to the group you want to access – say, SfEPLine. When you reach the SfEPLine page, look at the left-hand column. There, you will be able to click on, for instance, 'Messages' to see current and archived messages or 'Files' to see stored files.
I'm still flummoxed …
