Communicating about words and grammar – the SfEP appoints Integra Communications to oversee public relations
As the use and misuse of English spelling and grammar continues to hit the headlines, the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) has appointed consultancy Integra Communications to oversee its UK public relations activity. The current debate about modern language usage and the introduction of new words indicates an increasing need for the clarity that SfEP members can provide.
The SfEP is a non-profit-distributing organization with the twin aims of promoting high editorial standards and achieving recognition of the professional status of its members. It works to further these aims by disseminating information and advice; running a range of training courses; fostering good relations between its members and their clients; and helping professional editors and proofreaders to meet others in their field.
Nottingham-based Integra will plan, manage and evaluate the dissemination of news, commentary, research findings and examples of good practice from the SfEP and its members. This will enable journalists, specialist writers and researchers to have a coordinated point of contact with SfEP personnel and their knowledge, opinions and resources.
Senior account director Louise Third MIPR will work with Sara Hulse, SfEP PR director, to develop awareness of the organization and raise its profile, both with the media and with the public.
'We are delighted that Integra will be working to help the SfEP achieve its objectives,' commented Sara. 'Louise and her colleagues will be able to advise us, and help us deliver our news and commentary on issues such as the correct use of language and grammar in modern writing.'
Louise Third comments: 'The SfEP is a fascinating client to represent. Most people have an opinion on the use of language, but it is important to recognize how much professional editing and proofreading can contribute to the accessibility of a piece of writing. We are really looking forward to working with Sara and the SfEP team, although we are aware that we will have to be even more conscientious about getting our punctuation right.'
