Registration
Professional development director
Before spring 2002, the SfEP's accreditation qualification did not exist and a correspondingly greater amount of experience had to be assessed and endorsed by client contacts. This route to registration is no longer available and all applicants for registration must already be accredited.
Registration in proofreading
This is awarded by the SfEP to members who hold accreditation in proofreading and whose competence and reliability as proofreaders have been assessed and endorsed by client or employer contacts supplying satisfactory written evidence to the Accreditation and Registration Board. You must have completed a total of at least 500 hours of proofreading work spread among two or more separate clients or employers within the past three years.
For more information, see Registration in proofreading: Prospectus.
Applications must be made on the application form for registration in proofreading (included in the prospectus) and must be accompanied by the specified fee.
NVQ in book editing
Although the NVQ in book editing is no longer available, anyone who has gained a full NVQ in book editing or NVQ accreditation in Unit 1 (proofreading) or Unit 2 (copy-editing) will be granted registration in the relevant category or categories on submission of proof of such qualification. Use the application form for registration (NVQ) in the prospectus.
