Local groups: Calendar of events

SfEP members are welcome at all local group events. Those who don't already belong to the Society are welcome to attend up to three local group meetings before deciding whether to join.

What the groups do varies. Most meet regularly, providing opportunities for passing on knowledge and networking. In addition, they may visit local printers and other relevant venues, have speakers at their meetings and organise training.

Note: Members of the SfEP and the Society of Indexers (SI) are now able (and encouraged) to attend each other’s local group meetings. These meetings offer the chance to network, discuss common topics and to gain an insight into the issues faced by the other society. The SI has several local groups of varying sizes who meet for informal lunches, more structured workshops and excursions to local sites. 12 noon Sheffield Group – Our ‘Office Christmas Party’ at the Stag’s Head on Psalter Lane. We are a small, lively and friendly group, and our meetings are informal with discussions about anything which is on people’s minds on the day. We are delighted to welcome new or interested members, as they always add a new dimension to the conversations, and whether novice or experienced, we can all still learn from each other. Tuesday 8 January

2pm Liverpool Group – Meeting at The Pen Factory on Hope Street 2pm to 4pm. It’s downstairs next to the Everyman Theatre, about a ten-minute walk from Central Station. Our topic will be ‘The SfEP’ including:

  • What it is, how it works, how it’s run
  • What we get out of it (and what else we could get out of it)
  • What we can put into it
  • Its future, which might include chartership

We'll also examine how to convince potential clients in various markets of our expertise and the value we provide through our work.

We're a friendly and informal group that nonetheless covers a fair amount of useful professional information at each session, and any SfEP members/prospective members within reach of Liverpool city centre are very welcome to join us! 12 noon Toronto Group – Everyone will bring at least one favourite tip that helps them, which will lead into a discussion of our business/editorial/training resolutions for 2019. This discussion is intended to be as broad and wide-ranging as those attending want it to be.
