About the local group
The local group covers the Three Rivers region and meets informally once every two or three months, usually midweek, for lunch in a pub near Newcastle or Durham. Our meetings are a mix of discussions about matters of professional interest plus networking to swap ideas, problems, solutions and contacts – plus inevitably stories of misplaced apostrophes and the like. Members have a wide range of specialist skills and technical competence, so there's usually much to learn from one another.
We have occasional trips to places of interest (such as the Lit & Phil library in Newcastle). We have had a visit from a local published author, and also a round table discussion with the local Society of Indexers group. We have also started to hold meetings dedicated to one topic, including a recent stimulating discussion about our favourite reference books and websites. In addition, we have an annual Christmas social lunch. There are usually one or two members who attend the annual SfEP conference. It's nice to see a friendly face when you're there, and always interesting to hear their conference reports afterwards.
Details of upcoming meetings can be found in the Calendar of events.
