About the   local group

The coordinators of the   local group are .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

So, what goes on at this local group?

We chat. We eat and drink. We advise and ask for advice. We support each other. We celebrate success. We share best practice – and frustrations. We discuss opportunities.

But if you're really keen to know what goes on at our group, then come along to the next get-together.

Our meetings

We're a friendly, very welcoming bunch and our meetings are informal: they're socials with work chat thrown in for good measure. Most of all, we enjoy the opportunity to spend an evening with our local colleagues discussing the type of work we have on and the intricacies of being proofreaders and copy-editors.

When new people come along to find out more about proofreading, to get first-hand views on the training available or to ask about how to find work, we focus our attention on providing as much guidance and advice as we can ... and hope we see them next time.

We're a group for everyone, new or experienced. We meet every other month on a Monday evening at 6.30 p.m. We book a table for 7 p.m. at a pub in Leamington Spa and people are free to either have a drink or their evening meal. If you want to attend, please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

First impressions

Catherine Hanley won a competition in Editing Matters, writing on ‘What the SfEP means to you'. Of joining our group, she wrote:

This is one of the best decisions I've ever made: not only is it lovely to go out occasionally and meet real, actual people, but I was able to feel part of a supportive group.

Although I had by this point edited a lot of words, I was a bit clueless when it came to drawing up quotes for freelance work: a few evenings in the company of more experienced colleagues sorted that out.

I had one or two client-related difficulties: again, generous advice flowed. And the joy of being able to have conversations about hyphens without being made to feel like some kind of weirdo is indescribable.

The South Warwickshire and Coventry group, I salute you!
