Adding an avatar to your profile

Page owner: Digital services director

An 'avatar' is a small image that you can add to your profile. It can be a photo of you or of any other image that you want. Remember, though, that other users of the forum will see this image whenever they view your forum profile or look at any of your posts.

To add an avatar to your forum profile, just follow these simple instructions:

  1. Log in to the forum.
  2. Next to Logged in as, click your name.
  3. In the left-hand panel, click Avatar.
  4. Click Choose File.
  5. Locate the image you wish to use as your avatar and select that image file. Click Choose.

Any image file you choose must end with .gif, .jpg or .png. The file size should be at most 500KB and the image dimensions must be no more than 256 x 256 pixels. You will be reminded of this if you try to upload an image that does not meet these criteria.

  1. Click Upload. You'll see that the name of your image file has appeared next to the 'Choose File' button.
  2. A new window now appears. Click the radio button in the 'Select avatar' column.
  3. Click Save changes.

Your avatar will now appear on your profile page and next to any posts you make on the forum.

Multiple avatars

The forum allows you to upload multiple avatars, although only one may be in use at any time. To add new avatars, simply repeat the above process. Then choose which avatar you want to make active by clicking the relevant radio button in the 'Select avatar' column. Then click Save changes.

Deleting avatars

If you've uploaded an avatar but now wish to discard it, click the relevant tickbox in the 'Delete' column, and then click Save changes.

Turning off avatars

To suppress the display of all avatars in postings, click the 'Do not display avatars in postings' tickbox, and then click Save changes. You will no longer see avatars when reading any posts, but your avatar will still be displayed to others when they read messages.
