David Crystal OBE

David Crystal OBE, honorary professor of linguistics at the University of Wales, Bangor, is one of the world's foremost experts on the subject of language and lectures to audiences throughout the world. His authored works include The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language and The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language.

A former president of the Society of Indexers, he is editor of a series of general reference encyclopedias, first for Cambridge University Press and now for Penguin Books. He is also co-founder and chair of the print and web publisher Crystal Reference. He was elected honorary vice-president of the SfEP in September 2004.
